Honesty, Happiness, Joy

By Gareth

So what is honesty?
And what does it mean?
A word that honestly must mean something…

Well honesty,
In all honesty,
Is a rather difficult concept to convey.

(Especially in a poem written in a day.)

I am honestly trying quite hard as I write,
To write about honesty and not sound too trite.

So…

Honesty is the key to the most important thing of all.
More important than love, or going to school.
Honesty is, perhaps, the one things we’ve done,
That makes right all the pain; all the blood that has run.

Without honesty, mankind is reduced to nothing.
Every breath that fills us is without meaning.
For what is meaning without honesty? Nothing.
Honesty is what fills this poem. I mean every word.

How do I know this? It’s just pretty clear.
Honesty is a window, without any smear.
Honesty makes words have weight, like
“I love you.”
“I mean it.”
“We can do this.”

You know, without being silly, trying not to be coy,
There’s a reason this blog is named “Honesty, Happiness, Joy.”

So I’ll get to the point,
I’ll cease all my verse.

Without honesty, happiness can never truly be.
Not for you, and not for me.
By committing wholeheartedly to be being honest,
By giving it our all, deep down in our soul,
Happiness arises naturally,
Like rain falling from the clouds.

Honesty brings happiness like light comes in rays.
I honestly think nature has made us that way.

Happiness is the sole and only reason for living. It gives meaning to everything and the quest for it is what causes us to grow and know ourselves. And that, then, is where honesty comes in. If I am not honest, I am not me, and the person I make happy, while he may be pleased, is also not me. Only by accepting the truth, the honest truth, of who I am, can I be happy. Every choice I make must be made knowing what I want. Knowing what will make me happy.

How can I know this? By asking myself.
How can I trust the answer?
Be honest.
